Recovering deleted public folder items using PFDAVAdmin

One of the users today deleted an item from one of the many public folders. Now, as it doesn’t have a recycle bin she was a little confused as to where it had gone, and to be honest, so was I.

Anyway, it turns out you can recover deleted items by using the PFDAVAdmin tool on the Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server. If you don’t already have it, grab it here, it’s very useful for setting folder permissions, and as it turns out, getting back deleted mails too.

Once loaded, navigate to the public folder in question on the left hand menu, then at the bottom of the right side of the screen you will have an option to choose between ‘Normal Contents’ and ‘Deleted Contents’. You can then highlight the mail(s) that you wish to restore, then right click on them and select ‘recover Items’ and hey-presto the mail is back and you are considered an IT god, well, ish.
