Thanks to a couple of the guys on the forums (Alarm on DIYNOT and Arfur on thesecurityinstaller) I finally have the NovaGard6 external sounder linked to the Powermax+ panel.
It took a little while to get my head around it all (being a complete novice when it comes to alarms), but the wiring is as follows:

(I’ve omitted the Power, phone and X10 connections in the above diagram, as they are all pretty straight forward)
Zone 29 is set for the tamper for the external sounder, and set as 24h Audible. Note, that the 2.2kΩ resistor must still be used between Z29 and TMPR, and as the TMPF is already connected to 0V (as per the manual) there is no need to ground the TMPF back to the panel.
Also, if the external sounder keeps ‘sounding’ each time that you arm or disarm the system via the keyfob, then check out the SQUAWK settings on the PM+:
